The Wyndham Ocean Walk Resort is located at 300 North Atlantic Avenue, directly on the beach in Daytona Beach, FL. The resort is an ownership resort, but does rent condominiums to non-owners. There are an abundance of activities on site and within a short walking distance.
The Beach
The sand at the top of the beach is white, while the sand at the surf is grey and red. It is coarse hard sand that is great for supporting beach chairs, making sand castles and driving. That’s right; there are still several miles of beaches on which visitors can drive in Daytona. There are beach access points all-along North Atlantic Avenue. There is a small $5.00 fee for vehicle access to the beach. There are stretches of the beach in which the sand is really soft and signs are posted stating ATV and 4-wheel drive vehicles only. Mini-vans, cars and other vehicles will bottom out and get stuck in this soft sand.
Activities
The resort has various activities scheduled throughout the year. These activities are geared for various ages. There are kids “Get Out & Play” fun activities, adult aerobic classes and live entertainment options. The current schedule of activities can be found on the Ocean Walk web site. www.oceanwalk.com
The swimming options are perhaps the best part of this resort. There is the beach, three outdoor swimming pools and two indoor swimming pools. There is a lazy river and two water slides attached to the outdoor pools. There are also two outdoor hot tubs. One of the outdoor pools is a kiddy pool for children who are not yet swimming.
There is a 9-hole indoor putt-putt course. It is small and contained in an interior room at the resort, which makes it seem even smaller. However, if it is raining outside, it gives the kids something to keep them busy for a half hour or so. The island putting green mentioned in the marketing materials is a single-hole, small putting green located in the center of the lazy river.
Other amenities include two game rooms, which include billiards, exercise room, and limited internet access.
Room options
Rooming options range from a 2,000 square foot penthouse to an efficiency studio. The one bedroom studio includes a queen size sleeper sofa, and will comfortably hold a family of four with younger children who can sleep on the sleeper sofa. All rooms included fully equipped kitchens and washer/dryer. Beach towels and other linens are all provided. Prices start at $99 per night.
Parking
There is a multi-story covered parking deck which is complimentary for guests. If visitors arrive prior to check-in, they should go by guest services to get passes which provide access to parking and resort facilities until check-in time. The same applies for check-out day. Even after checking out of the room, parking and resort facilities are available for visitors for the entire day of check out.
Dining Options
There is a restaurant in the resort building. Additionally, there are beach front food vendors and a pool-side bar. The resort is connected to the Ocean Walk Village which offers many other dining and shopping options. All rooms include fully equipped kitchens, where guests can prepare their own foods. Coolers are allowed at the beach and swimming pools, so guests can take snacks and drinks with them.
ConclusionThe Wyndham Ocean Walk Resort is a nice resort, which plenty of activities for all ages. Pricing is considered great, given the amount of resort amenities and activities. Non-owner guests should be aware that the services are geared towards owners. That is not to say service is bad per se, but that all guests are not treated equal, as when visiting a hotel where everyone is just visiting.
